Russia disappointed by deteriorating situation between US and Iran

Moscow, March 3 (Prensa Latina) The Kremlin regrets the escalation of the situation between Iran and the United States, from negotiations to open aggression, despite previous progress, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

According to the spokesman, deep disappointment can be expressed that, despite information received about significant progress in the Omani-mediated negotiations, the situation has nevertheless deteriorated to the point of open aggression.

Peskov also noted that the Kremlin has no further comment on Russia’s position regarding Iran, as already outlined in a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

He also stated that Russia is not currently discussing the situation surrounding Iran with its BRICS partners.

Dialogue is currently being conducted primarily with Iranian leaders and the countries affected by the conflict, including the Persian Gulf states.

Earlier, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, described the actions of the United States and Israel in Iran as a “betrayal of diplomacy.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the United States and Israel attacks and called for an urgent de-escalation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, condemned the assassination of Seyyed Ali Khamenei, calling it a cynical violation of moral norms and international law.
