The statement specifies that “the situation in the Middle East in relation to the US and Israeli aggression against Iran was discussed.”
Borisenko again condemned, in a release, the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials of that country.
The conversation also emphasized that a further escalation of tension in the Persian Gulf region was unacceptable, given the concerns of Iran’s neighbors and the large number of Russian tourists in those countries.
The United States and Israel launched coordinated armed attacks on Iran on February 28, less than 48 hours after the conclusion of the third round of indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran in Geneva, Switzerland.
