Mexican Navy seizes two tons of cocaine

Mexico City, March 9 (Prensa Latina) Mexico's Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar Garcia, announced today the seizure of approximately two tons of cocaine in Acapulco, located in the southern state of Guerrero.

In a message posted on his social media account, the Secretary detailed that the seizure was the result of an operation led by the Mexican Navy, in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection.

He stated that, during the current administration, more than 60 tons of this drug have been seized in Mexican waters, which represents a direct blow to the financial structures of organized crime and prevents narcotics from reaching the streets.

The federal government is implementing a security strategy based on four pillars: addressing the root causes, consolidating the National Guard, strengthening intelligence and investigation capabilities, and coordinating with the states.

As a result of this operation, from October 1, 2024, the start of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, to January 31 of this year, law enforcement officers arrested 43,438 people for high-impact crimes and seized 22,832 weapons and 327 tons of drugs.

These actions are believed to have directly contributed to a 42 percent reduction in intentional homicides, according to official data.

In addition, an operation was added on February 22 to capture Nemesio Oseguera, alias “El Mencho,” which resulted in the death of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, the most wanted drug trafficker in Mexico and the United States.
