Spokesman Lin Jian asserted that Taiwanese authorities used a false narrative to whitewash Japanese aggression and colonial rule.
The official noted that Japan ruled the island for half a century, brutally suppressed the resistance of Taiwanese compatriots, plundered resources, and caused serious damage to the economy, culture, and well-being of the population.
He emphasized that this historical tragedy, marked by blood and tears, remains deeply etched in the memory of the Chinese nation and should not be forgotten or distorted.
He pointed out that more than 80 years ago, Taiwan was restored to the motherland, ending colonialism, after enormous sacrifices by the Chinese people, including Taiwanese compatriots. Lin Jian warned that Lai Ching-te’s comments demonstrate his intention to sell Taiwan to Japan and promote the island’s independence by distorting history and whitewashing colonial crimes.
The official concluded that any attempt to reverse Chinese reunification through historical misrepresentation will only lead to the failure of those authorities.
Taiwan was under Japanese rule between 1895 and 1945, a period marked by documented repression, economic exploitation, and significant social damage.
Its return to China was a result of World War II and the defeat of Japanese imperialism.
