Besides the host, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, is exected the presence of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi, who will assume the bloc’s pro tempore presidency.
Participants expect to adopt the Bogota Declaration, a document that will outline “the progress made in the last year regarding regional integration, cooperation, the promotion of peace, and the strengthening of multilateralism in Latin America and the Caribbean,” as the Colombian Foreign Ministry previously announced.
The Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the regional integration mechanism took place on Friday.
Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio highlighted, in her opening address, the CELAC’s capacity to sustain regional political dialogue with a view to reaching agreements, even when opinions differ within the bloc.
During her remarks, Villavicencio stated that the regional bloc’s strength lies in its ability to transform diversity into a platform for collective action.
