Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stated that this situation violates the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, as well as international law and the basic regulations governing international relations.
Lin said, “China firmly opposes this. We support Venezuela in defending its sovereignty, dignity, and legitimate rights.”
The reports noted that the president and his wife are scheduled to appear at a US court on March 26.
Washington recently blocked Venezuela’s ability to pay the legal fees of Maduro, who has been held in a federal prison in New York since his abduction on January 3, his lawyer and several international reports state.
China has condemned this trial in the United States, which described it as a serious violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and the stability of international relations. China and Venezuela maintain a resilient and enduring strategic relationship with broad multi-sector cooperation.
