The representatives of the two Caribbean island states agreed to strengthen their ties and develop strategies to boost cooperation in several key sectors, the newspaper Le Nouvelliste added.
Both officials expressed their commitment to strengthening this alliance, based, they emphasized, on solidarity, mutual respect, and a shared history of collaboration, the publication noted.
Current relations between the two countries date back to 1997, when the presidents of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and Cuba, Fidel Castro, agreed to their reestablishment.
The area of greatest cooperation between the two nations is health, through which some 3,000 Cuban doctors have been sent to Haiti since 1998, while 550 Haitian students have studied at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, and another 567 are currently enrolled. abo/arm/mem/apb
