The city’s main squares, particularly Revolution Square, were the scene of massive gatherings, where participants waved national flags and chanted slogans against the United States and Israel.
The demonstrations took place under strict security measures and reflected popular support for the political system established after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The date commemorates the referendum held on March 30 and 31 of that year, the results of which, announced on April 1, ratified the creation of the Islamic Republic of Iran with 98,2% of the vote.
The commemoration takes place against a backdrop of regional escalation, marked by US and Israeli attacks against Iran since late February, which have resulted in casualties and material damage, according to Iranian authorities.
In response, Tehran has launched missiles and drones against Israel, in addition to actions targeting what it considers US interests in the region, a situation that has drawn condemnation from some affected countries.
