Local analysts and unofficial sources highlighted that in just over three years, Sanchez will complete his fourth trip to China from April 13 to 15, confirmed by the Moncloa Palace.
Shortly after, the president will host, on April 17 and 18 in Barcelona, as the Secretary General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), the Global Progressive Mobilization (GPM) forum, an event that aims to counter the right wing.
The presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva; Colombia, Gustavo Petro; Uruguay, Yamandu Orsi; and South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa; European Council President Antonio Costa; and Stefan Lofven, President of the Party of European Socialists, are among the special guests to the event.
He will hold a Spanish-Brazilian Summit with Lula da Silva to strengthen bilateral ties.
Sanchez will continue Spain’s increasingly close relationship with China, a country that King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia also visited in late 2025.
Madrid and Beijing have a broad agenda of cooperation and bilateral agreements, covering virtually all areas, from economic and trade relations to culture and tourism.
Diplomatic sources in Madrid underscored that the relationship between Sanchez and Chinese President Xi Jinping is close, and both leaders have met at summits and international forums, where bilateral dialogue has flowed freely. In addition to meeting Xi, Sanchez will also speak with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC), before US President Donald Trump visits China.
