The document specifies that this Sunday morning, Salvadorans in solidarity with the island joined together on social media around the world to say “No to military intervention in Cuba,” following the intensification of threats from the White House against the island.
People from different political persuasions expressed their rejection of any threat of military aggression, and at the same time reaffirmed that Cuba has the right to peace, self-determination, and to resolve its challenges without external pressure or violence.
The call asked internet users to post messages on their walls or in groups such as “For a Cuba free of military intervention. Peace is the way.”
They also asked Salvadorans to express their support for the Cuban people with hashtags such as “#LetCubaBreath #CubaForPeace, #NoIntervention #SolidarityWithoutViolence.”
Salvadoran organizations, including War Disabled Persons, groups like those recovering at Camp 26 de Julio in Cuba, among others, are actively campaigning to support the Cuban people, sending donations of medicine and other supplies to alleviate the islanders’ healthcare shortages.
Just a few days ago, organizations of different political leanings, united by solidarity, held a caravan to the Cuban Embassy in San Salvador to express their support for the island, condemn President Donald Trump’s policies, and denounce the tightening of the embargo.
