Aguirre spoke exclusively with Prensa Latina and commented on the contents of a letter signed by more than a dozen social organizations addressed to President Yamandu Orsi and Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin.
The union leader stated that the letter, delivered to the Executive Tower and the Foreign Ministry, advocates for a clear and firm stance from the Uruguayan State against the US blockade against the Cuban people.
The PIT-CNT official pointed out that this stance should be expressed at CELAC, where Uruguay assumed the pro tempore presidency in March.
She noted that it would be to position ourselves in our country’s historical role in defending the self-determination and sovereignty of peoples.
Aguirre pointed out that the Uruguayans are perfectly aware of the solidarity shown by Cuba to the world and our people, with so many eyes saved by the ophthalmologists of the Caribbean island.
The Association of Mothers and Relatives of Detained and Missing Persons, the Mario Benedetti Foundation, the Peace and Justice Service, the Familias Presentes Association, the Cotidiano Mujer feminist collective, the Maestra Elena Quinteros Civil Association, the Socorro Rojo organization, and the Memoria en Libertad collective, among other organizations, signed the letter to President Orsi and Foreign Minister Lubetkin.
