Irvani accused Washington of violating the existing ceasefire agreement. “We reported on the need to lift the blockade and received indications that it will be suspended, which would allow for a second round of negotiations to be held in Islamabad,” the official said without offering further details.
The day before, US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the truce with Iran at Pakistan’s request, “until Tehran presents its proposal,” without specifying the duration of the extension.
On April 8, Washington and Tehran agreed to a two-week ceasefire in an attempt to contain the escalation of the conflict. Subsequently, on April 11, Islamabad hosted a round of talks between the two sides, which concluded without concrete results.
The conflict intensified after the start of US and Israeli military operations against Iran on February 28, which reportedly caused more than 3,000 deaths, before the truce came into effect with the aim of moving toward a negotiated solution.
