Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson adviser Ali Safari asserted that the responsibility for the course of the talks currently lies with the US side, and reiterated Tehran’s willingness to continue through diplomatic channels.
Safari told Al Jazeera Mubasher that the main obstacle lies not in the communication channels, but in Washington’s approach, based on pressure and threats, rather than effective diplomacy.
The adviser noted that Iran responded to proposals presented by the Pakistani mediator, but expressed distrust of the United States’ intentions, especially after what he described as setbacks in commitments related to lifting the naval blockade.
The situation became more uncertain after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concluded his visit to Islamabad, coinciding with US President Donald Trump’s announcement that he was canceling the trip of his envoys to Pakistan to resume negotiations.
The official noted that these decisions open the door to diverse scenarios, including a possible military escalation or the continuation of restrictive measures against Tehran, such as the blockade of its ports.
Safari criticized the deployment of US minesweepers to the Strait of Hormuz, considering it a reflection of a lack of will to reach a sustainable solution and a reinforcement of Iranian skepticism.
