Cuban residents in Panama reject US sanctions and threats

Panama City, May 2 (Prensa Latina) The Martí Association of Cuban Residents in Panama (AMCRP) rejected the new package of sanctions imposed by US President Donald Trump against the island.

The group emphasized that “each new measure strikes at our own flesh and blood, at our families who still live under the constant harassment of the blockade, at our friends, our neighbors, our comrades in struggle who put their lives on the line every day to defend Cuba’s sovereignty.”

The members of the AMCRP remembered the White House administration that, far from breaking them, each unjust sanction, each lie told, each attempt to portray Cuba as a threat when it is a historical victim of state terrorism only strengthens patriotic convictions and intensifies national sentiment.

The group, speaking on behalf of those who have embraced Latin America and the Caribbean as a second home, called for an end to the genocidal blockade and all its coercive extensions.

In this regard, the AMCRP urged against taking a step backward or making any concessions to the empire. “More united than ever in defense of Cuba, of our brothers and sisters there, of our memory and our future,” the message emphasized.

On the same day, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel responded on social media to Trump’s renewed threats of military aggression against the Caribbean nation.

“The international community must take note and, together with the people of the United States, determine whether such a drastic criminal act will be permitted to satisfy the interests of a small but wealthy and influential group, driven by a thirst for revenge and domination,” the statement read. He then added that “No aggressor, however powerful, will find surrender in Cuba. They will encounter a people determined to defend sovereignty and independence in every inch of the national territory.”
