Armed men in Nigeria kill three police officers

Abuja, May 3 (Prensa Latina) Armed bandits attacked a mobile police force camp in Nigeria's east-central Kwara State, leaving three officers dead and several wounded, a security source reported.

The Police Commissioner of that territory, Ojo Adekimi, stated that the agency he represents condemns the violent attack, which occurred in the village of Tenebo, in the Kaima Local Government Area, and which endangered the safety of the people.

After expressing the Police’s condolences to the families of the victims, Adekimi praised the officers who died in the line of duty for their bravery and sacrifice.

The perpetrators of the vile attack will have nowhere to hide, the official asserted, adding that all operational and intelligence resources are being deployed to capture those responsible for such acts.

As a sign of the country’s struggle to contain the violence, military forces carried out an air offensive yesterday against bases of armed factions in the northern Sambisa Forest and the Tumbuns region, though the effects of these bombings are not yet known.

In Nigerian territory, particularly in the northern portion, radical Islamic groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province operate, carrying out kidnappings and sowing terror among local populations.
