Through its Secretary General, Aquiles Castro, the PCT expressed its strongest rejection of recent statements by US President Donald Trump, which it described as a “flagrant violation” of Cuban sovereignty.
According to Prensa Latina, during a private dinner at the Forum Club in West Palm Beach, the president stated that he “will take care of Cuba,” although he will first conclude his war in Iran, as he likes to “finish the job.” The US president even suggested the possible deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to within 100 yards (91.44 meters) of the Cuban coast.
In a statement sent to Prensa Latina, the Communist Party of Cuba (PCT) considered these pronouncements from Washington a new episode of hostility against nations that defend their self-determination against the interests of large monopolies and multinational corporations.
The organization also condemned the U.S. government’s willingness to consider military aggression against the island and labeled Trump a “spokesperson for imperialism.”
The day before, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced before the international community that Trump had escalated his threats of military aggression to a dangerous and unprecedented level.
