Spokespeople for the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) commented that this reduction is due to pressure from Washington against Havana, mainly regarding fuel, which affects airlines connecting the country.
ONEI explained on its Facebook page that, as of March 2026, 448,857 travelers had been received, representing 59% of the number for the same period in 2025, which is equivalent to 312,375 fewer travelers.
They indicate that 298,057 international visitors were received through March, representing a 52% decrease, or 275,306 fewer international visitors, compared to the same period last year.
The ONEI chart for the year to date shows that Canada is the main source of travelers to Cuba, bringing 124,794 visitors, followed by the Cuban community abroad (34,233) and the Russian Federation (29,917).
The list, in order, includes the United States (17,034), Argentina (12,212), Mexico (9,520), France (6,725), China (6,531), Spain (5,851), Italy (5,271), and other countries (54,969).
Cuban tourism authorities are working diligently to revive this important economic sector despite economic challenges, hence the virtual holding of the 44th International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2026) from May 7th to 9th.
