Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made these statements during a regular press conference in response to questions about the visit to Beijing by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The spokesman noted that the situation in the Gulf and the Middle East is at “a crucial moment between war and peace.”
Lin stated that the objective of China’s diplomatic contacts is to reduce tensions, halt the conflict, and promote peace negotiations.
The spokesman emphasized that Beijing will continue to implement the proposals put forward by President Xi Jinping on the Middle East issue.
He also affirmed that China will support the countries of the region in building the so-called “four shared communities.”
Lin pointed out that Beijing will continue to offer support to promote peace talks and contribute to regional stability. The statement came amid rising tensions in the Middle East and ahead of US President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to China.
In recent years, China has promoted diplomatic initiatives to foster regional dialogue, including the restoration of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia announced in Beijing in 2023.
Tehran seeks a “comprehensive and permanent solution” to the war through “peaceful negotiations,” but at the same time will not hesitate to “firmly defend national sovereignty and the dignity of the people,” Araghchi affirmed during the meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.
