The initiative is also known as the Miscellaneous Law because it links reconstruction efforts following the forest fires, with 40 other measures, including reducing the tax rate for the wealthiest people from 27 to 23 percent, according to the Executive, to increase growth and employment.
Monday noon is the deadline for members of parliament from the different political parties to submit amendments and modifications to the bill, which has already been approved for legislative consideration by the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.
The opposition has so far stated that it has prepared nearly 2,500 amendments and hopes to force a point-by-point discussion and vote, which could delay the process or modify key aspects of the initiative.
The center-left parties are seeking to include measures such as lower fuel prices, refunds of Value Added Tax (VAT) on basic goods and medicines, and the elimination of the registry of outstanding debts for individuals and companies.
The Executive maintains its goal that the law is approved before the June 1 State of the Nation Address.
