The data varies between the National Directorate Against Gender Violence of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Women, and the Justice and Gender Observatory of the Judiciary.
During the first quarter of the year, 22 femicides were recorded; however, more recent reports from the Ministry of Women raise the figure to more than 27 cases through May, while the Observatory of the Judiciary reports 32.
The situation continues to cause concern among authorities and the public, even though the statistics reflect a slight reduction compared to previous years.
Experts warn that many of the victims had previously reported situations of violence or lived under constant threats and aggression.
They believe this demonstrates shortcomings in the prevention, monitoring, and protection mechanisms for women at risk.
The provinces with the most reported cases continue to be Gran Santo Domingo, Santiago de los Caballeros, San Cristobal, La Altagracia, and Puerto Plata.
During 2025, 59 femicides were recorded, representing a reduction of approximately 17% compared to 2024, when 71 cases occurred.
Another worrying aspect is the number of children and adolescents orphaned as a result of these crimes.
