Italian workers reaffirm solidarity with Cuba at Assembly

Rome, May 12 (Prensa Latina) The General Assembly of the Italian Federation of Agro-Industrial Workers (FLAI) reaffirmed its union support for the Cuban Revolution in the face of the economic blockade and threats from the United States.

“Only through concrete solidarity can we be certain of restoring hope to those who yearn for a better world,” said Giovanni Mininni, Secretary General of the FLAI, who presided over the event of this important organization, affiliated with the Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL), regarding aid to Cuba.

Solidarity with the Cuban people “cannot be limited to marching with peace flags. We have participated in all the demonstrations, but today that is no longer enough. Demonstrations are justified, they must be held, but we must also take action,” Mininni stated.

The assembly, held the previous day at the Frentani Congress Center in Havana, was attended by the Cuban ambassador to Italy, Jorge Luis Cepero, and the political advisor and second-in-command of that diplomatic mission, Damián Delgado.

Silvia Guaraldi, a national leader of the FLAI-CGIL union who spoke at the assembly, led an 11-member delegation from the union that traveled to the island on April 28 with a shipment of humanitarian aid and also participated in the events commemorating International Workers’ Day on May 1.

“We left for Cuba with hearts full of pride, driven by the profound desire to provide concrete assistance to a people who have been resisting an increasingly severe blockade for years,” she stated before emphasizing that the mission “was not just a trip, but an act of internationalism, fraternity, and peace.” We stand in solidarity with those who defend their history and their present with dignity, stated the head of the delegation that delivered a shipment of medicine, food, and photovoltaic systems to health, educational, and production centers in the eastern provinces of the Caribbean country.
