The Confederation of American Educators (CEA), the Federation of University Teachers’ Unions of South America (FESIDUAS), and the Forum for Education in Ibero-America issued the statement in a text disseminated in Spain by various media outlets.
Faced with the intensification of the unacceptable suffocation of the Cuban people and their basic needs for energy and food, they emphatically rejected this situation and reiterated their demand for its end. “In this regard, we express our firm solidarity and support for the Cuban people,” they emphasized.
They also noted their close ties with “sister organizations” of education workers (SNTECD) and the Central Organization of Cuban Workers (CTC). Furthermore, they urged workers’ organizations in the region and around the world to join them, expressing their support and historic commitment during these critical times.
“We reaffirm our vision of a Latin America and the Caribbean that serves as an example of a Zone of Peace and Development with social commitment. The world today faces a tremendous crossroads that challenges the great political, military, and economic powers,” they noted.
Elsewhere in the declaration, they considered that dialogue and political diplomacy represent a tremendous historical opportunity to transition from the unipolar world, in place since the 1990s, to a growing and developing multipolarity, with no turning back.
“(…) we unite, as always, our unwavering commitment to our peoples and their better future. No to war, yes to peace. Enough of the inhumane blockade against Cuba!” they concluded.
