Dominican Republic exports $442.7 million to Haiti despite crisis

Santo Domingo, May 21 (Prensa Latina) Dominican exports to Haiti reached US$442.7 million between January and April of this year, representing a 23.3 percent increase equal to the same period in 2015, the General Directorate of Customs reported.

The dynamism of trade is concentrated mainly in the domestic sector, which accounted for 75.7 percent of total exports, followed by free trade zones (15.4 percent), temporary admission (5.18 percent), and re-exports (3.6 percent).

Within the domestic sector, 56.1 percent of sales to Haiti are concentrated in 10 products, led by non-alloy iron or steel bars (14.54 percent), hydraulic cements (10.74 percent), and wheat or meslin flour (5.52 percent).

In the case of free trade zones, 84.6 percent of shipments are concentrated in 10 items, most notably knitted undershirts (31.79 percent), other cotton fabrics (22.82 percent), and plastic items for transport or packaging (6.33 percent).

In contrast, imports from Haiti totaled just $110,000 in the same period of 2026, representing a 97.01 percent drop compared to 2025.

These purchases were concentrated in the consumption clearance regime (65.8 percent) and free trade zones (34.1 percent), with products such as undenatured ethyl alcohol (61.8 percent), undershirts (12.6 percent), and textiles like twine and rope (9.3 percent).
