According to the report, a detailed study by the College of the Economic Commission of the EAEU showed that between 2019 and 2024, the trade volume of the member states with the BRICS countries doubled, reaching US$27.3 billion.
The main export products were meat and meat by-products shipped to China and the United Arab Emirates; dairy products exported to Egypt, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates; fish and crustaceans destined for Indonesia and China; as well as cereals supplied to Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
The College of the Economic Commission of the EAEU also approved a recommendation on developing trade and economic cooperation between member states and the BRICS countries in the area of agricultural and food products.
Member states were recommended to support the implementation of digital solutions in agricultural production, including the use of unmanned ground and aerial systems, the application of precision agriculture technologies based on artificial intelligence, and geographic information systems.
Furthermore, the College advocated for the creation of digital services for weather forecasting and agricultural risk assessment.
“The implementation of measures for the development of digital technologies in the agribusiness sector aims to reduce the technological gap, increase the competitiveness of the agricultural sector, and ensure the sustainable development of the industry within the context of the digital economy,” Gohar Barseghyan, Minister of Industry and the Agribusiness Sector at the College explained.
The minister emphasized that this recommendation will allow EAEU member states to assess the possibilities of diversifying their exports towards the markets of the world’s largest importers: the BRICS countries.
