“This meeting is particularly important to better position our work and activities, to coordinate our efforts more effectively, and to ensure that the message we have been maintaining—Cuba is not alone—is heard throughout the world,” stated activist Aline Perez in the central state.
The member of the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba reaffirmed at a press conference her unwavering commitment to the defense of the island and “that sovereign, independent, and free project” that “the vast majority of the Cuban people have decided to uphold.”
The event, which concludes tomorrow, will include keynote addresses and working groups, and will commemorate the centennial of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to be celebrated on August 13. Among the guests at the event, held in the hall of the National Union of Social Security Workers, are the First Vice President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Noemi Rabaza, and the essayist Katiuska Blanco.
Also participating are the journalist Alondra Santiago; the director of the Fragua Martiana Museum, Yusuam Palacios; the Cuban Ambassador to Mexico, Eugenio Martinez; and the Deputy Chief of Mission, Ambassador Johana Tablada.
For more than six decades, the United States has imposed an economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, which was tightened last January through an executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The lack of access to fuel resulting from this intensification affects critical sectors such as electricity generation, the operation of hospitals, food production and distribution, and water pumping in the Caribbean nation.
