The event, which opened on Monday and will run until June 5, is presenting academic, artistic, and social activities that bring the university community closer to the history, culture, and current reality of Cuba.
A press release from the Cuban Embassy in this capital stated that Maria Angelica Buendia, rector of the UAM Xochimilco, emphasized during the opening ceremony that the festival is a space for encounter, reflection, and collective construction based on diversity.
In her view, the event is “a valuable opportunity to connect, through culture, art, and historical memory, with a reality that is part of the contemporary history of Latin America.”
Cuban Ambassador to Mexico, Eugenio Martinez, highlighted the value of cultural and academic exchange as a way to bring new generations closer to Cuban history and reality.
The festival features the opening of the exhibitions “When History Was Still a Promise: Exile and Preparation for the Cuban Revolution in Mexico (1955-1956)” and “Cuba 1964: The Revolution in Progress,” an exhibition by renowned Mexican photographer Rodrigo Moya.
