Fire in India claims 21 lives

New Delhi, June 3 (Prensa Latina) At least 21 people, mostly foreign tourists, died as a result of a massive fire at a hotel in the Malviya Nagar area, south of the capital.

Officials stated: “Several of the fatalities are foreigners, mainly from Central Asian and African countries.”

Authorities warned of the possibility of an increase in the death toll, as several of the injured are in critical condition.

According to police sources, the hotel had only one entrance and exit, and they pointed out that the establishment’s fire safety certificate is under investigation.

They stated that more than 40 people were rushed to the hospital, where 21 of them were pronounced dead on arrival.

A source from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences reported that the hospital received 13 patients: three of them had injuries caused by falls, while the other 10 were members of the rescue teams.

Video footage from the scene showed rescue workers evacuating people from the building’s basement, and eyewitnesses reported that several people jumped from windows to escape the flames.

The structure suffered huge damage as a result of the fire.

It was also reported that local residents played a crucial role in the rescue efforts before emergency services arrived. The rescue operations concluded, and the building was cordoned off to allow for a police investigation.
