According to reports published by the Anadolu Agency, the statements were made during a joint press conference in Dhaka with his Bangladeshi counterpart, Khalil Rahman, at the conclusion of bilateral talks focused on political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation.
Fidan highlighted the importance of Bangladesh’s role, which hosts more than one million Rohingya refugees, and emphasized that Ankara is actively working to keep this issue on the international community’s agenda.
The Turkish Foreign Minister noted that relations between Türkiye and Bangladesh are experiencing a phase of increasing dynamism, with initiatives aimed at expanding cooperation in various sectors and increasing bilateral trade.
According to him, current trade between the two countries is around $1.3 billion, with the goal of increasing it to $2 billion in the coming years.
Fidan also reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to continue providing humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees and supporting their voluntary, safe, and dignified return to Myanmar.
The minister also announced his intention to visit the refugee camps in Coxs Bazar, where various Turkish cooperation and humanitarian aid organizations operate.
The Rohingya crisis originated after decades of discrimination in Myanmar and worsened in 2017 with military operations in Rakhine State, which led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people to Bangladesh, in what international organizations have described as ethnic cleansing.
