Massip was a founder of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), a recipient of the National Film Award (2012), and a key figure in the articulation between historical thought, audiovisual creation, and cultural criticism.
His work encompassed documentary, fiction, and essay, with seminal titles such as *The Times of Young Martí* and *History of a Ballet*, *El Megano*, the latter of which Cuban researcher and critic Luciano Castillo recognized for his contribution.
Castillo emphasized that Massip belongs to the generation that transformed the screen into a space for critical thought and historical essay.
For her part, documentary filmmaker Lizette Vila emphasized the philosophical dimension of Massip’s legacy, conceiving of film, radio, and television as platforms for granting dignity, constructing meaning, and waging battles for cultural emancipation, as detailed by UNEAC on social media.
The presentation by Cuban researcher Mayra Alvarez revealed Massip’s historiographical background, noting that he worked alongside Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring at the Havana City Historian’s Office before turning to filmmaking.
Another highlight came with the remarks by Cuban maestro Santiago Alfonso, National Dance Prize winner (2007), who reminisced about the classic *Historia de un ballet (Suite Yoruba)*, filmed in 1962.
