Mexican President reaffirms rejection of US blockade on Cuba

Mexico City, Jun 17 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed her stance in defense of the Cuban people's self-determination and her rejection of the economic blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean nation.

“We will always seek the self-determination of peoples. Our Constitution states it, and we do so out of conviction. We do not agree with blockades. They harm peoples. They don’t harm governments, they harm peoples,” she said at her usual press conference.

Amid the intensification of the blockade imposed by Washington on Cuba, the head of the Executive Branch reiterated her disagreement with punishing the Cuban people and called for dialogue, never violent solutions.

For more than six decades, the United States has imposed an economic, commercial, and financial embargo on Cuba, which was tightened last January through an executive order signed by Trump.

The lack of access to fuel resulting from this intensification affects critical areas such as electricity generation, the operation of hospitals, food production and distribution, and water pumping in the Caribbean nation.

The Republican’s threats and other measures against Cuba have sparked rejection and condemnation from popular sectors, governments, and politicians in Mexico and various countries around the world.
