A statement released by the local press specified that the political parties Commitment to Citizenship and Development (ECiDbe), Alliance for Change (A.Ch), Together of Volunteers for the Recovery of the DRC (Envol), and Ensemble pour la République were called upon to provide testimony.
The president of the National Council for Monitoring the Agreement and the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (Cenco) were also notified.
The Minister of Justice requested that all information be shared regarding the events that occurred during the June 12 demonstration near the People’s Palace, organized by opposition parties, where 20 people were injured, including police officers and protesters.
The statement also stated that the competent Public Prosecutor has been ordered to open an investigation to fully clarify these incidents and determine responsibility, in accordance with DRC law.
The objective of this opposition demonstration was to demand the withdrawal of the draft referendum law and to express rejection of the constitutional changes, considered a government maneuver to allow President Felix Tshisekedi another term.
