The agreement was reached in a meeting between the Laotian Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Linkham Douangsavanh, and the Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Dith Tina.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation 2023-2027 and expanding bilateral ties in trade, investment, and agricultural development.
Officials emphasized the need to strengthen private sector participation and boost partnerships between companies in the two countries to boost production, processing, logistics, and agricultural value chains.
One of the main outcomes was the opening of a trade route that will allow Cambodia to export agricultural products to China through Laos, consolidating a new regional logistics corridor.
Among the products included in this scheme are durian, bananas, rice, mangoes, longans, and cassava, the first shipment of which will be celebrated with a ceremony at the Thanalaeng dry port.
Laos also plans to export products such as coffee, cabbage, tamarind, sticky rice, blueberries, and pumpkins to Cambodia, thus expanding bilateral agricultural trade.
