The Interior Ministry stated in a press release that the total number of injured has risen to 54, while search and rescue operations continue to locate the missing.
The ministry indicated that Qatar’s International Search and Rescue Group, attached to the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), is working jointly with Civil Defense teams in the operations deployed at the site of the accident.
Authorities had reported on Sunday night that the explosion occurred as a result of a technical failure during operations at a factory located in the Ras Laffan industrial zone.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, the incident did not result in any leaks of materials that pose additional risks to public safety or the environment.
Emergency teams remain deployed in the area to assess the damage, assist the injured, and continue the search for missing persons.
The Ras Laffan industrial zone, located in northern Qatar, is home to the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and is a key pillar of the Gulf nation’s energy and export industry.
So far, authorities have not released any further information regarding the exact causes of the accident or the identities of the victims and missing persons.
