In an official statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the strikes against several locations on the southern coast—including Qeshm Island and the city of Sirik—and described the operation as a violation of international law.
“The US military, designated as a terrorist organization, carried out airstrikes against various points along Iran’s southern coast,” the text noted, also denouncing the destruction of coastal surveillance facilities.
The Foreign Ministry maintained that these actions constitute “a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter” and the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington on June 18 to end the war.
Early this Sunday, US Central Command announced strikes against 10 Iranian military targets in and around the Strait of Hormuz, in response to an alleged drone attack on an oil tanker.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have retaliated with attacks on eight US military facilities in the region, including the Ali Al Salem airbase in Kuwait and the Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.
These tensions arise against the backdrop of the June 18 memorandum of understanding between the two countries, which called for a cessation of hostilities, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the easing of shipping restrictions in the area—one of the world’s most important energy transit routes.
