Over the last two months, the U.S. leader’s approval ratings in Italy have plummeted to historic lows, according to the latest poll conducted for the newspaper *La Stampa* by expert Alessandra Ghisleri, director of the research institute Euromedia Research.
Experts highlight a significant finding from the analysis: only 18.4 percent of Italians with right-wing political views expressed a favorable opinion of Trump.
The study suggests that one factor contributing to the marked rise in disapproval of the U.S. president among Italians was his recent offensive remarks regarding the country’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, following the G7 Summit in Evian, France.
Speaking on a news program on the Italian TV channel La7, Trump claimed that during the forum, he agreed to a photo with Meloni “out of pity” after she “begged” him for it. This was perceived as a serious insult to the head of government—an incident that damaged the image of both leaders, according to 32.7 percent of respondents.
For 74.9 percent of those interviewed, Trump’s policies pose a risk to a world deeply affected by conflicts such as those in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Some 39.1 percent of respondents described the U.S. leader as provocative and arrogant; 22.8 percent based their opposition on the view that he is aggressive and divisive; and 18.9 percent perceived him as chaotic and unpredictable, the source adds.
