In a message posted on his X account from the New York jail where he has been detained alongside his wife—Deputy Cilia Flores—since the beginning of the year, the leader stated that he had witnessed “with admiration the living testimony” of the Venezuelan people.
He highlighted that, rising above the pain and shock, he drew upon his spiritual and human strength to “face this tragedy with greatness, filled with faith, love, and hope.”
“Cilia and I give our prayers for the deceased, the injured, the missing, their families, and all those who continue to fight, minute by minute, to save lives,” he expressed.
He noted that Venezuela’s seismic history, recorded since 1530, encompasses “hard moments of destruction and also of rebirth.”
“But once again, Venezuela will be reborn like the phoenix, with the favor of God the Almighty Father, the strength of its people, and national unity,” he emphasized.
The constitutional leader stated, “We must be grateful for the immediate, solidary response from peoples and governments around the world to support our Homeland.”
Citing the Gospel of Matthew and calling for all actions to be taken in that sacred spirit, Maduro affirmed: “God will provide relief, comfort, strength, and the rebirth of Venezuela.”
