Organized by the National Council of Cultural Heritage (CNPC) and the Office of the City Historian (OHCH), the International Symposium on Intangible Cultural Heritage will also be held in parallel.
The academic program includes several lectures from the UNESCO World Heritage Center, which can be accessed virtually.
The opening program includes performances by the Failde Orchestra, from the western Matanzas province, which was re-founded in 2012 by Ethiel Failde, a descendant of Cuban composer Miguel Failde (1852-1921), who created the first danzon titled “Las Alturas de Simpson” (Simpson’s Heights).
The organizers explained that one of the event’s new features is the tribute to the Conjunto Folclorico Nacional de Cuba (Cuban National Folkloric Company-CFNC) for the teachings, knowledge, and practices transmitted to the National Cultural Heritage, a unique declaration under exceptional circumstances.
The delegates could enjoy for three days of optional tours of the National Museum of Music, the Santa Clara Convent, and the Cuban Art and Universal Art buildings at the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA), institutions located in Havana’s historic center.
