Mexico’s Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, Canada’s Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, and United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer attend the meeting.
Ebrard alluded, in a message on his X profile, to the possible scenarios arising from this meeting.
He explained, “One path is to hold a review in six years with an extension of the treaty’s validity until 2042. The other path, if that option is not chosen, is to maintain the 10-year term, which we already have planned until 2036, and conduct a review every year.”
The controversial tariff policies of US President Donald Trump, and statements in which he even alluded to the possibility of letting the USMCA expire and entering into bilateral treaties, cast a shadow of uncertainty over the agreement since 2025.
