To Lam made the call in a speech delivered in the southern metropolis, on the 50th anniversary this Thursday of the 6th National Assembly’s decision to rename Saigon-Gia Dinh after the national independence hero.
The top party leader emphasized that bearing the name of President Ho Chi Minh is a great honor, but also a special political, moral, and historical responsibility.
The CPV general secretary remembered that young patriot Nguyen Tat Thanh, later President Ho Chi Minh, set sail, 115 years ago, from Nha Rong Wharf in search of the country’s salvation, marking the beginning of the historic journey toward national liberation.
To Lam said Ho Chi Minh City has reaffirmed its role as a major economic center, an important hub for finance, trade, services, science and technology, education and training, healthcare, culture, foreign relations, and international integration.
