In discussions themed “Cuba facing the empire: Internationalism, peace, and resistance against the US,” activist Javier Couso criticized Washington’s imperialist policy.
He also addressed the hybrid war being waged against Cuba, which spans the communications and psychological realms to the economic sphere; the latter currently manifests as a total blockade—a “medieval siege” against the Cuban economy and the very lives of the Cuban people.
The former Member of the European Parliament argued that the White House is reinstating the Monroe Doctrine. He also denounced the European Union’s stance regarding Cuba, noting its failure to defend Spanish and European companies against US threats—threats that have forced firms such as Melia and Iberostar to withdraw from Cuba and abandon their investments on the island.
For his part, Fernando Gonzlez, president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), emphasized that the current White House administration seeks to return his country to the state of US domination that controlled Cuba’s sovereignty and economy prior to 1959.
Gonzalez noted that in December 2025, Washington published its document on the New National Security Doctrine, reviving the “Monroe Doctrine” of “America for the Americans” (or rather, for the United States).
