The event, held at the city’s Revolution Square, began with the laying of a floral offering at the equestrian statue of Major General Ignacio Agramonte, paying tribute to one of the nation’s key patriotic symbols.
The ceremony also paid tribute to Fidel Castro and honored the combatants who participated in the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, in the lead-up to National Rebellion Day.
The graduation ceremony recognized students with outstanding academic, scientific, and social impact achievements—such as Jeidy Beatriz Miranda, Damian Jesus Guerra, and Jesus Javier Olazabal—who received the Suma Cum Laude Award, with several of them also earning the Scientific Merit Award.
Graduates who excelled in research, culture, sports, university outreach, communication, and student leadership, as well as those who served as student assistants, were also recognized.
In the ceremony, institutions such as the Center for Environmental Research, the Association of Educators of Cuba, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), the Union of Jurists of Cuba, and other educational bodies presented special awards to graduates who had made significant scientific and social contributions.
The university’s rector, PhD. Julio Cesar Madera, highlighted that the institution managed to maintain the teaching process despite the difficulties faced during the academic year, thanks to the decentralization of instruction to municipal university centers and the strengthening of ties with workplace and educational entities.
