India: BRICS countries discuss labor market challenges

New Delhi, Jul 15 (Prensa Latina) Labor and Employment Ministers from the BRICS countries meet in India on Wednesday to discuss the common challenges facing the labor market and employment in a constantly evolving sector.

The delegates, gathered in Hyderabad until Thursday, focus on strengthening cooperation to boost social protection, training, and labor market policies, aimed at promoting inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth in the countries of the intergovernmental bloc.

The meeting represents, for the organizers, one of the key ministerial commitments of India’s 2026 BRICS presidency, and therefore, they predicted deliberations focused on practical and replicable policy tools.

Indian authorities indicated that the Hyderabad meeting is expected to strengthen cooperation among the BRICS nations and contribute to practical and forward-looking results in the areas of labor, employment, and workers’ well-being.

They stated that through ongoing dialogue and knowledge sharing, the bloc’s countries seek to boost policies that support decent work, expand social protection, foster skills development, and prepare their workforce for the opportunities and challenges of the future of work.

The meeting of employment ministers was preceded by the meeting of the Working Group on Employment that facilitated an exchange of best practices and national experiences in the areas of social security and the formalization of labor markets, as well as the participation and inclusion of women in the workforce.
