In a statement, the military claimed that the operation was part of the eleventh wave of actions carried out in response to US attacks on Iranian territory.
“In response to hostile acts against civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians, the Iranian military attacked US military helicopters and P-8 reconnaissance aircraft located at Sakhir base with Arash drones,” the statement said.
Tehran called the offensive the eleventh phase of Operation Thunderbolt, although it did not provide information on possible damage or casualties.
The United States has been launching attacks against targets in Iran for several days, while the Persian nation is responding by targeting facilities it identifies as US military positions in various countries in the region.
Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18th that included a ceasefire and the start of negotiations, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, to end the war launched on February 28th by the United States and Israel against Iran.
However, US President Donald Trump announced the end of the truce on July 8th following a new escalation.
