Chileans highlight Cuba’s resilience at Moncada commemoration event

Santiago, Chile, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) Catalina Lufin, president of the Communist Youth of Chile, expressed her deepest appreciation for the people of Cuba, who are currently standing firm against the intensified policies of strangulation imposed by the United States.

The youth leader noted that, despite the economic, commercial, and financial blockade in place for over six decades—and in the face of media campaigns—Cuba has managed to hold its ground and is also preparing to defend the homeland in the event of U.S. aggression.

She referred to statements made by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who—during the main event marking National Rebellion Day—declared that the country is waging a historic battle, a “new Moncada.”

This allusion referred to the current challenges posed by the tightened blockade, the energy embargo, and threats of military aggression. “Never has a people endured a coercive system as prolonged and all-encompassing as this blockade,” she said.

She pointed out that, despite these pressures, the country has achievements to showcase, such as the graduation of over 30,000 young people from universities this year—including 735 from various other countries, among them 23 new Palestinian doctors and five from the United States.

The leader highlighted the various actions taken in Chile to support the island. “While the blockade has intensified, solidarity in Chile has grown exponentially,” she emphasized.

At the event—attended by local officials, lawmakers, residents, artists, and members of the Solidarity Movement—Deputy Boris Barrera underscored the significance of the gathering in commemorating a historic Cuban date and renewing the commitment to solidarity and the struggle against the blockade.
