The Ministry of Commerce expressed Beijing’s strong discontent and opposition following the update of the so-called “List 1286” of foreign research institutions involved in activities deemed problematic by the Pentagon.
The Ministry affirmed that the United States is constantly expanding the concept of national security and imposing discriminatory barriers that politicize, instrumentalize, and weaponize scientific cooperation.
The source noted that these actions hinder exchanges and collaboration between Chinese and US scientific institutions, and contradict the global trend of cooperation in technological innovation.
The institution urged Washington to cease what it called unfounded defamation of Chinese scientific institutions and guarantee them fair, equitable, and non-discriminatory treatment.
The Ministry of Commerce also underscored that China will take the necessary steps to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its research entities and safeguard the normal development of international scientific and technological cooperation.
