Ecuador’s opposition criticizes Noboa on new promises about medicines

Quito, Jul 28 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador's opposition criticized President Daniel Noboa regarding his explanation for the delay in purchasing medicines, even as reports of shortages in public hospitals persist.

The reaction followed the president’s explanation—given in an interview with Radio Sucre—that the process announced during his May 24 “Report to the Nation” is still in the standardization phase with the national health authority.

Citizen Revolution (RC) legislator Viviana Veloz criticized the government’s latest explanations, stating that the promise to stock hospitals has been repeated throughout the administration’s two years in office without yielding results.

“It’s the same old story again: ‘now we really are going to stock the hospitals.’ They’ve been promising the same thing for two years. The last big announcement was on May 24. The result? Hospitals without medicines and abandoned patients,” the legislator stated on her X account.

Veloz further maintained that the Executive branch has failed to guarantee the supply of medicines or combat corruption within the health system; she also questioned the fact that individuals linked to hospital administration are now ruling-party pre-candidates for the local elections.

Additionally, the RC legislative caucus denounced alleged restrictions preventing lawmakers from entering hospitals and health centers to carry out oversight activities.
