Mexico to send more material aid to Cuba, Sheinbaum announces

Mexico City, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed her stance in favor of the sovereignty of nations and announced the upcoming shipment of more aid to Cuba, a country besieged by the intensified U.S. blockade.

“The sovereignty of nations and the support we can continue to provide to the people of Cuba,” the president stated in response to a question about the march in support of the island held on Sunday in the capital, which drew thousands of people.

During her regular press conference, the leader mentioned that she spoke with the Head of the Office of the Presidency, Lazaro Cardenas, and the Navy Secretariat “to arrange the shipment of new aid” to the largest of the Antilles.

Members of more than 90 organizations—including the Mexican solidarity movement with the island and the association of Cubans residing in the country—marched on Sunday to condemn the aggressive policy of the United States, in another demonstration that the Antillean nation “is not alone.”

Chants of “Cuba yes, Yankees no,” “Cuba will not yield,” and “Bring down, bring down the criminal blockade” rang out among members of social organizations, political parties, unions, and citizens, who called on Mexico to send oil to the Caribbean nation.

After the drive concluded in front of the former U.S. embassy in the city, organizers read a joint statement denouncing the tightening of the blockade, which drastically affects sensitive areas such as the healthcare system.

Furthermore, they expressed their rejection of the threat of military aggression against the island, the targeting of the Caribbean nation’s sources of financing, and the energy blockade imposed by Washington—describing the latter as a “cruel form of collective punishment that can be classified as genocide.”

The signatories called for joining forces against “the imperialist and fascist onslaught against Cuba” and the peoples of Latin America, as well as for mobilizing all possible forms of support for the Caribbean nation.
