Solar panels for Prensa Latina: A beam of solidarity from US

Washington, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) A kit of solar panels from the United States has been added to Prensa Latina's efforts to change its energy source, thanks to the initiative of friends in solidarity with Cuba in California.

Aware of the need to maintain the vitality of Cuban media outlets, affected, like the rest of the country by the tightening of the US government’s blockade and the energy siege imposed by the administration of President Donald Trump, press supporters in Los Angeles raised the necessary funds to achieve their goal.

One of the participants in this solidarity project commented that the idea is to extend the solar panels to other media outlets in Cuba in the future.

From Prensa Latina, the news agency founded by Fidel Castro on June 16, 1959, with more than 30 offices worldwide, came gratitude for this gesture of support at a time when Washington’s measures against the island are intensifying, and threats of military aggression are increasing.

The executive order signed by Trump in late January imposed a blockade that prevented fuel from reaching the Caribbean nation.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated at the 7th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly’s 10th Legislature that only one ship carrying oil had entered Cuba in the last seven months.

Diaz-Canel warned that this serious energy crisis is linked to the attempt at economic stifling imposed by the United States to “provoke a social explosion” in the island nation.

Cuba has suffered six total blackouts this year due to the disconnection of the National Electro-Energetic Grid (SEN).
