Nicaragua reaffirms commitment to Latin American integration

Managua, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) The President of Nicaragua's National Assembly (Parliament), Gustavo Porras, reaffirmed his country's commitment to the integration of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In recent remarks to the program *El Mapa* on the multinational network Telesur, the head of Parliament stated that regional unity constitutes the primary strength for defending the sovereignty and self-determination of peoples.

He maintained that the Nicaraguan Constitution promotes Central American, Latin American, and Caribbean unity as part of the principles guiding the country’s policy.

Porras noted that the peoples of the region share a historical and cultural identity that should serve as a foundation for strengthening integration in the face of international challenges.

Referring to the continued relevance of doctrines such as the Monroe Doctrine or attempts to revive interventionist strategies in the region, he asserted that the response must be greater cohesion among Latin American and Caribbean countries.

As he explained, unity begins with the internal strengthening of each nation and, from that foundation, must extend toward the integration of Central America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

The President of the National Assembly reiterated that strengthening peace, stability, and Nicaragua’s internal development will also contribute to efforts toward unity and integration in Latin America and the Caribbean.
