Child vaccination expanded in Brazilian state of Sao Paulo

Brasilia, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) The Brazilian state of Sao Paulo is conducting a multi-vaccination campaign across its 645 municipalities through September 1, targeting children and adolescents under the age of 15 and offering 20 different vaccines.

The initiative aims to update vaccination schedules for children and adolescents by administering the necessary doses in accordance with health guidelines.

According to press reports, available vaccines include those for BCG, hepatitis B, polio, rotavirus, pneumococcus, meningitis, influenza, COVID-19, yellow fever, measles, chickenpox, hepatitis A, HPV, and dengue fever, among others included in the Brazilian vaccination schedule.

This measure follows the confirmation of 23 measles cases in the state during 2026; two were classified as imported cases, while the others were linked to imported cases, although the specific source of infection was not identified.

Regiane de Paula, head of the Disease Control Coordination unit at the state health department, stated that each dose boosts population protection and helps halt the circulation of the virus.

The Sao Paulo initiative is taking place amidst efforts to restore epidemiological surveillance and reinforce immunization as a tool to prevent the resurgence and spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.
